The Modern Team

Established in 2004, the modern Renfrew Millionaires Hockey Club maintains the proud heritage of one of hockey’s most storied names. Competing at an elite level within the Ottawa Senior Adult Hockey League (OSAHL) and premier regional tournaments, our organization has built a consistent winning culture—highlighted by the 2012 Molson Cup and the 2016 OSAHL League Championship.

We are a club defined by the perfect balance of competitive grit and veteran maturity. Our focus remains on sustaining a roster of high-skilled, experienced players who value both the quality of play on the ice and the camaraderie off of it.

As we continue to grow our legacy, we are actively seeking like-minded individuals to join our ranks. If you are a mature, high-level player looking for a premier hockey environment, the Millionaires offer a professional atmosphere rooted in over two decades of modern success.

The Original Era

Discover the Legend: The Original Renfrew Millionaires

While our modern club competes for championships today, the "Millionaires" name was forged in an era that changed the sport forever. To wear our jersey is to wear hockey history.

The Gold Standard of 1909

Founded by industrialist M.J. O’Brien, the original Millionaires earned their moniker by shattering the amateur mold of the early 20th century. By signing the era’s greatest stars to unprecedented contracts, they transformed Renfrew into the birthplace of professional hockey. As a founding pillar of the National Hockey Association (NHA)—the direct predecessor to the NHL—the club proved that a small town could dominate the national stage.

Championship Pedigree: The 1909 FHL Cup

Before joining the NHA, the Creamery Kings established their dominance in the Federal Hockey League (FHL). In a historic 1909 campaign, the club captured the FHL Championship, securing the league cup and cementing their status as a powerhouse. This victory provided the momentum to challenge the biggest markets in the country.

An Unrivaled Roster of Hall of Famers

The legendary 1910 squad featured an incredible seven future Hall of Famers, including:

  • Cyclone Taylor: The era's premier superstar and highest-paid athlete.
  • Newsy Lalonde: One of the most feared scorers in hockey history.
  • Bert Lindsay: The stalwart goaltender (and father of legend Ted Lindsay).
  • The Patrick Brothers (Lester and Frank): Visionaries who revolutionized the rules of the game.
  • Didier Pitre & Sprague Cleghorn: Powerhouses who defined Millionaire grit and skill.
